Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on Christmas Day where two 26-year-old local men were attacked in East Street with a bottle.

The victims were on their way home with friends having celebrated Christmas Eve in nearby venues when the assault took place at around 12.30am.

One of the men was struck round the head several times with a bottle and received deep wounds requiring stitching.

The offending group was made up of about seven or eight men.

Police are looking for witnesses to the actual assaults and to help identify individuals within the offending group.

The main offender with the bottle is described as white, aged around 22 to 28, 6’ 1”, of medium build and with short dark hair, wearing jeans and a hooded top.

Chris Mills, detective constable, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack during the festive time by what we believe to be a visiting group of young men from outside of Horsham.

“It was an isolated and unusual incident for the town.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting serial 35 of 25/12. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
