Maypole fete raises £5,500 for pre-school

HUNDREDS of families joined in the fun and helped Plaistow Pre-School raise around £5,500 at its Maypole Fete.

This year local singing legend Willie Austen opened the event on Plaistow Village Green to acoustic tunes. Later on he judged the children's fancy dress competition.

The pre-school pupils performed their dance around the Maypole and then visitors were treated to attractions including go-karting, fairground rides and tree climbing. The arena events were well supported with many entries for the dog show with classes including 'dog with the waggiest tail'.

Emma Dockerill, chairman of the Plaistow Pre-School committee, said: "We had a fantastic day and we would like to thank the many local organisations, businesses, families and friends of the pre-school for supporting us and helping the day run as smoothly as possible.

"This event is essential for funding our community school and we are very pleased with the amount we managed to raise this year despite the recession.

"The biggest reward is seeing the children have fun and we are already looking forward to the Maypole Fete 2010."
