Right at the heart of Cranleigh, Rowleys Centre for the Community invited the Mayor of Waverley Borough Council to its official re-opening on Tuesday November 13.
Rowleys, in Victoria Road was re-furbished as part of a building programme by Thames Valley Housing Association.
The former Rowland House, WBC sheltered flats which were originally joined to Rowleys, have been demolished and new low-cost homes built along with some accommodation for the elderly and flats for clients of Whitmore Vale Housing Association.
As part of that scheme Rowleys has also received a facelift.
Tony Gordon-Smith (Con, Godalming Charterhouse), mayor of WBC, spoke about the importance of day centres and the need for the council to continue funding them.
Supporters of Rowleys, clients, and friends gathered together on Tuesday to enjoy afternoon tea and see the improvements that had been made. Guests included members of staff from Sainsbury’s in Cranleigh, which has chosen Rowleys as its charity of the year.
Age UK Waverley and Rowleys trustees chairman Kay Newnham said it had been a difficult time during the lead-up to building works, and thanked both the users of Rowleys for their patience, and Rowleys staff, including centre co-ordinator Gary Lee, activities co-ordinator Tina Perry, and manager Christine Napthine.
Open on weekdays from 9.30-3pm, it offers a range of activities, lunches and snacks.
