Plans for a new market town between Henfield and Sayers Common are progressing, according to the company director behind plans.

Mayfield Market Towns pitched its idea for around 10,000 houses to Horsham District Council in June 2012 as it decides how many houses to build and where they should go in the district over the next 20 years.

Lee Newlyn, a director at Mayfield Market Towns, said: “Our plans for a new market town are progressing, we have been in communication with Horsham, Mid Sussex and Crawley councils and have been working on revised plans.

“A new website has been launched at www.mayfieldtowns.co.uk where people can give us their feedback on plans so far, and of course our plans will eventually be the subject of a full public consultation.

“In the meantime we continue to try to work with the relevant local authorities through their local development framework processes.”

Philip Hill, clerk of Henfield Parish Council, confirmed that Mayfield had requested a meeting to discuss the proposal, and this request would go before the council’s planning scrutiny committee and then to full council.

Simon Andrews, chair of No West End Lane Development, fighting 160 possible Barratt homes west of Henfield, said: “A lot of people are scared about this development.

“What most people feel is that we are - for the geography in Henfield, and the development we have taken so far, the 300 homes in Parsonage Farm, or Deer Park- now not in a position to take any more development without seriously affecting the day to day life in the village.”
