Two Billingshurst mums launched a brand new market for the village running every month for small and independent businesses last Thursday.
Claire Golding and Bik-Kay Talbot, both from Berrall Way, have two children each at Billingshurst Primary School, and met each other due to heavy involvement in the PTA.
They decided to launch Billimarket, which will host its next event in the Conference and Community Centre in Roman Way on Thursday November 1 from 1-4pm, to provide support for small businesses.
Mrs Golding said: “We were just looking to do something locally, and then we had quite a lot of people interested.”
Mrs Talbot added that it was the ideal solution to bring people into the village.
She added: “Everyone has said it’s a great idea, especially for Billingshurst.”
They have had interest from traders in Pulborough and as far away as Redhill, and have 20 already booked in for next month, and expect numbers to surge as Christmas approaches.
They are aiming to run the market on the last Thursday of every month, with local businesses able to rent a stall for £12.
The pair are drawing from the success of Billingshurst Creatives shop, which recently opened in Jengers Mead.
The new co-operative shop for local artists and makers has shelves for each business, and is run by Billingshurst volunteers.
Gary Holder, an Arnway business owner from Coneyhurst’s West Chiltington Lane, who was manning one of the stalls, said: “As soon as I saw this coming up I said I wanted to come here and exhibit.”
Marion France, a therapist who has recently moved to the area, thought that Billimarket would be an ideal vehicle for developing her practice and said she liked to think of herself as a community resource.
