Libraries help to 'keep people working'
A £15,000 boost will see West Sussex Libraries providing IT training and hundreds of new books advising people on employment and business, to help guide them through the downturn.
The measures form part of the 500,000 'Keep West Sussex Working' package, developed by West Sussex County Council following meetings with business leaders.
As part of the package hundreds of books are being selected and distributed to the 36 West Sussex libraries.
The books will cover themes such as CV writing, financial planning, job changing, how to start up a business and many other practical topics.
Brad Watson OBE, County Council Cabinet Member responsible for the Library Service, said: "These books will be widely available in all our libraries and will help people looking to get a new job, or to prepare to start or improve a small business."
IT training sessions will also be held in a number of libraries under the scheme to give people the essential skills to help prepare themselves and get into the market place for new jobs.
Sessions will include IT starter lessons, CV writing and how to make online job applications.
Six libraries will also be offering 'new job workshops'. Attendees will be shown how to re-appraise their own skills and strengths and how to look for new career directions.
Brad added: "Look out for details in your local library over the coming months to find out where the training sessions and workshops will be held."
Leader of the Council Henry Smith said: "'Keep West Sussex Working' has been launched by the County Council and backed by the seven District and Borough Councils.
"We are looking to develop a wide range of initiatives to help support residents and businesses during the economic downturn."
