Latest look at HFC plan

THIS is the latest architect's drawing of Horsham Football Club's proposed new ground at the Holbrook Club.

An aerial view of the Holbrook site in North Heath Lane was shown to fans and committee members by architect Alan Baker at the club's annual meeting on Wednesday (July 4) evening.

The design gives another perspective on plans that the football club hopes to submit to Horsham District Council sometime this month.

Horsham FC purchased the Holbrook Club for around 2.5m in December last year with a view to developing a 3,000 fan capacity ground on the site, while retaining much of the Holbrook club's facilities.

Mr Baker hopes the ground will cost around 1m to construct and the new view of the plans may appease those in opposition.

Money from the sale of their current ground in Queen Street will fund the development.

In the plans, there are more than 100 parking spaces and provision for 68 bicycles to be brought to the ground after consultation with highways experts.

"It has been a case of making sure we provide more than adequate parking spaces, in effect I have provided twice as much parking as the council could ask for," Mr Baker commented.

"I have also taken on board everything the Holbrook Club has had to say."

A football pitch and rugby pitch are to be retained at the site along with a cricket square, while Mr Baker has tried to retain space for the archery facilities at Holbrook.

The Horsham FC ground will be partially dug into the grass to level the playing surface, floodlights will be retractable and the main stand, which will hold 330 fans, is to be positioned behind the Holbrook Club's large sports hall - out of view from the road.

"I think one or two of the people on Wednesday night thought the ground looked a little small, but Horsham are an amateur club and will never be in the Premier League," Mr Baker added.

Horsham FC director John Lines said: "We want to be completely transparent about what we are doing.

"The swell of public opinion seems to be getting more positive by the day."
