Officials have reacted with dismay at the potential stalling of a project to revamp a derelict site in Roffey, but is it the worst eyesore in Horsham?

The site, on the corner of Littlehaven Lane and Crawley Road, has lain derelict for years, but the Guinness Partnership, an affordable-home provider, was granted planning permission in June to build 14 properties by Horsham District Council.

At the time it was described as a thorn in the side of the area and an eyesore by HDC members.

However in recent weeks letters to the County Times from HDC councillor Peter Burgess (Con, Holbrook West) and Roger Wilton, chairman of North Horsham Parish Council, have suggested that the project has stalled.

When asked if this was the case, a spokesperson for HDC said: “At a meeting of Horsham District Council’s Development Control (North) Committee on 3 July 2012, the planning application (DC/12/0744) was delegated for approval subject to the consideration of various detailed matters and the completion of a legal agreement in respect of infrastructure contributions.”

Guinness South have also been approached for comment.
