THE OWNER of a dog thought to have viciously attacked a woman in Horsham has attended the town police station this morning after seeing a picture of the victim on the front page of today’s County Times (Thursday February 2).

Jacqui Sweeney had to have 19 stitches in her upper lip after she was mauled by a Boxer in Memorial Gardens, behind Sainsbury’s store off Worthing Road on Sunday morning.

In an exclusive interview, Jacqui explains how the animal ran straight towards her, jumped into the air before sinking its teeth into her face and dragging her to the ground.

“I just remember grabbing my face and seeing the blood,” she said.

For the full story pick up this week’s West Sussex County Times.

The violent attack has sparked concern among residents, dog walkers and visitors to the gardens who are calling for owners to keep their dogs on a lead when in a public area.

I happen to live in Crawley and dog attacks are no higher than anywhere else in the country thank you very much. I'd like to know where your reasoning for this has come from. I'm tired of seeing stories about dog attack and who's the one that suffers in the end????? the dog! ........It doesnt matter that maybe the owners simply have the dog to "look goodhard" therfore not excersied probably, aggression and energy then pents up and then one day "bang" the dog attacks someone and they are labelled as an agressive dog. No dog is aggressive through wanting to be or because it's a certain bread. It's how the dog is handled from day 1 that determins how that dog will react in certain situations. It may not even necessarily be aggresive but like humans it has a bad day and does something completely out of character, doesnt make it aggresive. Dogs are like humans, they have good days and bad days! I have a satffordshire bull terrier and she has the nicest temprament because she's been baught up well and with proper training. Im sick not only of certain breads being labelled as aggressive but these types of acts being associated with "Crawley" Crime in Horsham appears to be on the up....reading only last week someone being attacked with a homemade knife!!! But i shant mention that to much or the the other stories i've read of crime being on the up in Horsham. I feel for this women i honestly do, it must have been terrifying, but the dog cant always be to blame or labelled as aggressive.

Why do people want aggressive dogs? A common problem in places like Crawley.
