Horsham was the first parish to be visited by the new Bishop of Chichester last night (Wednesday November 28) following his enthronement on Sunday.

The Rt Rev Dr Martin Warner was officially welcomed into the role on Sunday and is planning to visit parishes across the Diocese over the coming months. St Mary’s church was packed with well-wishers this week to hear his message for them.

Canon Guy Bridgewater, leader of St Mary’s Horsham said: “It was a great privilege for St Mary’s Horsham to be chosen as the first Parish Church to welcome our new Bishop, following his enthronement at Chichester Cathedral last Sunday.

“A large congregation gathered at St Mary’s from across the county this week, to hear an inspiring sermon from Bishop Martin, and to renew their shared commitment to Christian service in the local community.”

Bishop Martin has moved to Chichester from the Diocese of York, where he was a much loved Bishop of Whitby - and he was warmly greeted both in the service and at a reception following, by a range of local representatives including young people, headteachers, ministers of other denominations and the Chairman of Horsham District Council Leonard Crosbie.
