Horsham school chef's award

A HORSHAM school chef has been crowned 'Highly Commended Main Course' winner at the 'School Chef of the Year 2009' national final.

Annette Wedd, from Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School, wowed the judges with a main course dish of apricot and minted lamb kebabs.

She competed against eight other finalists, after winning the London and south-east regional final.

Annette said: "I am truly elated. I worked very hard and hoped that I would pull it off on the day, as indeed eight others did too.

"It was a very enjoyable time and I would recommend it to any school chef in the country."

Annette's award was presented to her by former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, and former Commonwealth and European champion athlete Derek Redmond.

Peter Griffiths, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, said: "This is a wonderful achievement showcasing the talent school chefs have, as well as serving our children with nourishing food.

"Congratulations to Annette and may she continue to flourish."
