Horsham's iconic swans return

HORSHAM'S iconic swans sculpture has returned to the Swan Walk shopping centre.

Major Swan Walk refurbishment works were launched today - and the popular swans have taken centre stage.

The removal of the beloved bronze sparked huge controversy a year ago.

The County Times mounted a campaign to bring the Lorne McKean masterpiece back to the shopping centre after the newspaper and website were flooded with thousands of letters and messages appealing for their return.

Swan Walk management today confirmed a new plinth for the swans will form part of the new look Swan Walk with a temporary base being installed to protect the structural support but keep the swans visible during the works.

The hoardings surrounding the swans will also be used to communicate programme updates and other centre information.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "All works will be undertaken over night and there will be no disruption to shoppers or businesses."
