Thousands of people flocked to Horsham town centre on Saturday (27 October) to enjoy an eventful Halloween Party.

A spooky themed Carfax Halloween market formed the centrepiece with many stall holders competing to win the best carved pumpkin and dressing themselves and their stalls to suit.

The festivities took place as part of the Horsham Town Centre Festival, which is organised by Horsham District Council in partnership with Horsham Rotary Club.

Entertainment arranged by the Council on the bandstand in the Carfax included a number of community children’s performance groups and music performances were co-ordinated by the Festival of Sound.

A story telling witch and walkabouts, including a walking coffin and a piano playing ghoul, sponsored by Pret a Manger, had many children and parents enthralled throughout the day.

Ringo, Horsham’s dragon mascot, gave away free ride tickets for the Old Mill Funfair for later in the week and there was Halloween face painting on the mosaic in Swan Walk shopping centre (to be repeated when the fair is in town on Thursday November 1, Friday November 2 and Saturday November 3.

A Pumpkin Carving Workshop was run on a ‘ghost bus’, sponsored by newly re-launched property agents Harper James, and it proved popular with over 50 pumpkins produced on the day.

All this was followed by Horsham town’s ‘best decorated pumpkin competition’ sponsored by Fishers Adventure Farm Park, Harper James and Sainsbury’s.

A panel of judges from Pret a Manger, Fishers Farm and Harper James chose winners in the three age categories.

The traditional October town centre fair, Old Mill Funfair, returns again this year.

This year it will be located around the Shelley Fountain from Thursday November 1 to Saturday November 3.

An eventful half term is then capped off with the Horsham Rotary Club’s Pudsey & Pals Mascot Party for BBC Children in Need on Sunday November 4 from 1.30pm.
