Goodwood roller marathon hoping to raise thousands of pounds

ROLLING around Goodwood motorcircuit these skaters are hoping to help raise thousands of pounds for a national child protection charity.

The annual Goodwood Roller Marathon is taking place in support of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children on August 10.

For the first time there is an option to skate 26 laps of the track, which is 62.9 miles in the mega race. Other options for entrants are the full race of 11 laps, the midi of 5 laps, and the mini which is 2 laps.

So far more than 200 people have already registered for the event.

All participants will receive a medal for taking part and there will be microchip timing of laps, with the results posted on the event's website afterwards.

Event organiser Mick Minster said: "The Goodwood Roller Marathon really is great fun for skaters of all abilities and as well as having a great day out we encourage all participants to get themselves sponsored and raise funds for a really worthy cause."

NSPCC fundraiser Russell Squire said: "This is the second time that the event has supported the NSPCC and we are extremely grateful to Camberley Skaters for choosing us again.

"Money raised through this event will help us to run our services including ChildLine which provides vital support for vulnerable children and young people."

Entry fees vary for each race, full details can be found on the event website - www.goodwoodmarathon.co.uk.

The race is limited to skaters, skateboarders, or longboarders, unfortunateley cyclying around the track is not allowed.

The track is open to the public at 10am and registration closes by 11.30am with the race starting at 12 noon.
