Police are appealing for witnesses after two cars crashed in Warnham as they tried to avoid a tree on Christmas Eve morning.

A tree had been cut down on the A24 and was lying in the northbound carriageway when the drivers of a blue Volkswagen Golf and blue Saab 93 tried to avoid it at about 6.30am.

The 34-year-old woman from Crawley who was driving the Volkswagen suffered an injured knee and whiplash.

The 58-year-old man from Dorking who was driving the Saab suffered cuts and whiplash. His 47-year-old female passenger, also from Dorking, suffered a fractured breastbone.

PC Ben Henwood said: “I need to speak to anyone who saw the tree in the road before the collision or saw the cars crash but who has not yet come forward.

“I also need to find out who cut the tree down. If you know who was responsible or when it happened, please contact me.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting Operation Budapest or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk
