Family fun at Buchan Park
The 2009 events guide for Buchan Country Park between Crawley and Horsham is out now, with fun activities and walks for all the family including animal tracking and a 'safari'.
School holiday events have also been arranged for children and young people.
A number of events are planned for the Easter holiday next month including traditional activities in Easter Eggcitement, finding treasure on the Great Easter Trails, learning how to be a wildlife watcher on Wild Spring Detectives and the ever popular Buchan Bushcraft – teaching skills such as shelter building, animal tracking and fireside food.
Other events include:
Midnight Moths on Saturday June 6 – go on a one-mile quest for 'night hawks' and enjoy a cup of cocoa while waiting to see which moths will be drawn near the light traps.
Animal Tracks and Signs on Friday July 10 and Friday July 17 – get up close to the rodents that live in Buchan Country Park and see them in live traps set up around the park. Also learn how to check for animal signs.
Teddy Bears Bumble on Monday July 27 – bring your favourite teddy bear for a safari around Buchan Country Park, and don't forget your picnic.
Buccaneer Rangers, from Tuesday August 4 to Thursday August 6 – three half-day tester sessions of outdoor activities on exploration, field craft and conservation, to find out more about being a countryside ranger.
Airborne Antics on Saturday August 15 – Try your hand at the ancient art of kite making. Choose from a number of designs, build your kite and, wind permitting, get flying.
West Sussex County Council Leader Henry Smith said: "Buchan Country Park is made up of 170 acres of woodland, heath and meadow, find out more about the countryside and wildlife in this idyllic location on one of the many events on offer."
County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy Deborah Urquhart said: "The Park organises a range of events throughout the year from walks to family events, providing something for everyone."
