East Street businesses suffer power cuts

A power cut in Horsham town centre caused chaos among East Street businesses this afternoon (Friday November 16).

Kay Tyler, of Mayfair Hair, said that they had lost power around 1.15pm, and had to move one customer to the cellar of the next shop to dry their hair.

“We can’t dry anyone’s hair as we have no electricity at all,” she said.

“It’s so bad Cote have got candles on their tables.”

She believed a workman had accidentally cut a power cable in East Street, while doing work on the road.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: “UK Power Networks apologises to customers in East Street, Horsham, for the interruption to their power supplies this afternoon.

“An underground cable was damaged at 1.50pm today and interrupted power supplies to approximately 30 customers in the area.

“Engineers had to isolate power supplies to some other customers at 3.44pm in order to make the equipment safe to carry out the repairs.

“We understand how difficult it is being without electricity, both for the businesses and residents who have been affected, particularly on a Friday night in this area. Our staff are on site working to reconnect supplies as quickly as possible.”
