Earth Hour set for Horsham
HORSHAM District Council is asking residents to sign up and switch off their lights for Earth Hour at the end of March.
At 8.30pm on Saturday March 27, people, businesses and iconic buildings around the world will switch off their lights for an hour – World Wide Fund for nature's Earth Hour.
Horsham District Council will be joining in again this year by switching off the lights in Horsham town to show their support.
In the town centre, the feature lighting in West Street, the Bishopric and around the Shelley Fountain will be switched off.
The illumination of Park House and Park House Lodge will also be turned off.
All safety and security lighting in the town will remain switched on at all times.
WWF wants a billion people around the world to sign up to Earth Hour and join in.
It's hoped the world's skies will darken as millions of people across the planet switch off their lights for one hour, sending a signal to global leaders that they must take urgent action to tackle climate change.
The 2009 Earth Hour saw 4000 cities in 88 countries across the world turn their lights off.
Some of the world's most iconic landmarks also turned their lights off including Buckingham Palace, the Eiffel Tower, the Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza and the Las Vegas Strip.
Residents can sign up to support WWF's Earth Hour by visiting www.earthhour.org
