Daniel's so happy to help Chichester's peregrines

A CHICHESTER schoolboy has become the RSPB South East's youngest volunteer, thanks to the city's famous peregrine falcons.

The peregrines nesting at Chichester Cathedral have gained an army of fans since the arrival of four new fluffy chicks.

And Daniel Barton was so fascinated by the birds he decided to spend as much time with them as possible.

Daniel (ten) now volunteers with the RSPB at the cathedral and even spent the majority of his half term there.

"I really like being at the cathedral and talking to people about things like where the peregrines are and what happens when the chicks start to fly," said Daniel.

"We had one extremely bedraggled peregrine – her feathers were sticking out all over the place. She really looked a picture."

The RSPB's Caroline Inglis said: "Volunteering opened a lot of doors for me and I'm sure it will for Daniel.

"It's great to have someone so young, and so full of enthusiasm on our books. He's brilliant – he absolutely loves the peregrines."

Daniel is the youngest of 1,400 volunteers in the south east. Each gives their time free to help the RSPB help wildlife.
