Cowfold roadworks on the A272 are clear to traffic, West Sussex County Council has confirmed this morning (September 26).
There is still work being done on the side of the carriageway but it will not affect traffic, said a spokesperson for the county council.
A number of commuters celebrated on social media.
Natalie McNamra tweeted: “Finally Cowfold traffic lights have gone!”
And Nige N tweeted: “Thought you might like to know that the temporary lights in Cowfold have gone :-)”
Motorists prepared for more delays after the completion of road maintenance on the A272 was put back until Wednesday (September 25).
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) issued an apology last Thursday (September 19) after discovery of old abandoned pipes and a water tank underneath the carriageway meant extra help would be needed to complete the job which was originally due to be finished by Friday September 20.
