STUDENTS at Christ’s Hospital near Horsham have achieved the school’s best A Level results in 20 years.

More than 80 per cent of all grades were A*-B and almost a third of the students achieved straight A or A* grades.

These fine results and the first class careers counselling that students receive at Christ’s Hospital have ensured that almost all have gained places at top UK universities, including 13 who will take up places at Oxford or Cambridge later this year.

This is in spite of the reduction in the number of university places available nationally and the fierce competition for places that has ensued.

The Headmaster, John Franklin, congratulated the students and their teachers on these fine results, adding: “Christ’s Hospital has been working hard in recent years to raise the academic bar even higher and it is gratifying to see that these efforts, along with the obvious ability and hard work of the students, has paid off so handsomely.”

Individual highlights include Jessica Eastwood, from Chichester, who plans to read chemistry at Oxford and Si ji Fan, from Horsham, who will read law at Cambridge, Both gained four A* grades.

Last year’s Senior Grecian (head prefect), Phoebe Hames, from Greenwich, also gained straight A* grades and will read classics at Cambridge, while Xenia Bond, from Hackney, blazed a new academic trail by gaining a coveted D1 (higher than A*) grade for art in the new Cambridge pre-U exam.

Both will be heading off to Cambridge, having been awarded Organ and Choral Scholarships respectively.

Their mother said: “It’s amazing news! They have worked really hard and taken every opportunity made available to them at Christ’s Hospital.

“The school has been the making of them, enabling them to reach their full potential and providing them with a passport to a successful and rewarding future.”
