In June, Sussex Police Authority voluntarily referred an allegation of misconduct against the Chief Constable Martin Richards to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Sussex Police Authority has welcomed the conclusions of the IPCC report which concluded there was no case to answer regarding the anonymous allegation which remained uncorroborated despite independent investigators seeking to encourage the source of the allegation to make contact with the IPCC.
In light of the IPCC’s report the Police Authority’s Professional Standards Committee has dismissed the allegation against Mr Richards.
The Chairman of Sussex Police Authority, Steve Waight, said: “We welcome the findings of the IPCC. It was absolutely right that the Authority voluntarily referred an allegation of this nature to the IPCC and we welcomed their independent scrutiny and investigation.
“The Police Authority is satisfied that the findings of the investigation have proven there is no evidence of wrongdoing.
“The Police Authority upholds the view that independent scrutiny is a vital part of maintaining public confidence in policing and recognising this, the Force and the Chief Constable have been fully supportive of this approach and the subsequent investigation throughout.”
