Cheaper access to oil in the Horsham district

Cheaper heating oil is potentially available to those living in the Horsham District and could benefit those without access to gas central heating.

The mains gas network in the Horsham district does not cover the whole of the district and some residents, particularly in rural areas, rely on more expensive forms of heating such as oil.

In some parts of the district, oil clubs have been formed where neighbours place an oil order together as buying a larger volume of oil means a better price can be negotiated.

Horsham District Council is holding a public meeting to provide information for anyone interested in hearing more about the benefits of oil clubs.

Topics covered at the meeting will include how to set up an oil club and how to join one.

A staff member from the Environment Agency will also be on hand to advise residents about keeping oil secure and protecting against leaks and the disastrous consequences of oil pollution.

The meeting will be held in Cowfold Village Hall (opposite the Post Office in the centre of the village) in Cowfold on Friday November 9 at 6.30pm and the doors will be open at 6pm.

Andrew Baldwin, Horsham District Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “Heating costs, particularly now that winter is approaching, are a concern for many people especially those who rely on oil as their main form of heating.

“An oil club can offer good deals because of the ability to bulk buy. The benefits of oil clubs are not widely known. This is a good opportunity for people to find out more.”
