A Storrington school governor is championing a new hi-tech system throughout the county which enables governors to work more efficiently.
Peter Surtees, of Windmill Copse, is chair of governors at Storrington First School and also Cornfield Special School in Littlehampton. He has ensured that West Sussex school governors top the league tables when it comes to embracing new and better ways of working – and they look set to pull even further ahead.
The county already boasts more governors than anywhere else in Britain using cutting edge technology to help run local schools. Now other schools are set to join them thanks to free training on how to use innovative new technology which streamlines busy governors’ workloads and frees them up to concentrate on the things that really matter to pupils and parents.
Peter, 55, had introduced the hi-tech Governors’ Virtual Office on line system to his two schools, which have benefited enormously from the way it facilitates effective governance.
Everything comes into the virtual office system on line, eliminating the need for vast amounts of paperwork, slimming down meetings to be more effective, and there are even governors whose work takes them abroad, who can access everything they need whilst away.
Peter said: “Governors in West Sussex are open to new ways of working and are not frightened of trying something new.”
The free workshops focus on using the technology to implement Ofsted recommendations on effective governance – helping keep not only the governors, but their schools at the head of the pack. Attendees get the chance to mix with existing ‘virtual office’ users, to share ideas and experiences.
