Central heating tops county complaints

SUBSTANDARD central heating topped complaints about home improvements received by West Sussex County Council Trading Standards Service in February.

Shoddy central heating attracted 42 complaints. Plumbers and plumbing were next (11 complaints), followed by:

Fitted bathrooms/roofing (10).

Fitted kitchens (8).

Electrical Services (3).

There were a total of 91 complaints compared with 97 in the previous period.

But Peter Evans, County Council Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said complaints about substandard service could be avoided by consulting West Sussex Trading Standards Buy With Confidence register.

"For example, it has eight central heating traders, 21 plumbers, 14 fitted kitchens and 24 fitted bathrooms specialists, 15 traders offering electrical services and nine roofing specialists.

"Overall there are 238 Buy With Confidence members in West Sussex and more than 2500 in the South East.

"All have been strictly vetted and inspected by our Trading Standards experts to make sure they are committed to maintaining high standards and have a good customer focus.

"Buy With Confidence is a highly valuable guide because it spotlights reliable and trustworthy local businesses, while at the same time protect consumers from rogue traders."
