Candidates for Police and Crime Commissioner have been announced

The candidates in the running for the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner have been announced.

Elections for Police and Crime Commissioners will be taking place across England (except London) and Wales on November 15 2012 and the candidated who are standing are:

Tony Armstrong - UKIP

Katy Elizabeth Bourne - The Conservative Party Candidate

Ian Chisnall - Independent

Godfrey Daniel - Labour Party Candidate

David Rogers - Liberal Democrat

Local residents will have the opportunity to vote for the first ever Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner. Over a million registered electors in Sussex will be able to vote in this election, including British, EU and Commonwealth citizens.

The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner will replace the Sussex Police Authority. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the Chief Constable, and holding the police force to account.

The election in Sussex will be led and co-ordinated by the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO). The PARO for Sussex, appointed by the Secretary of State, is Lee Harris, Chief Executive of Crawley Borough Council. 

The official Statement of Persons Nominated will be published by noon on Tuesday October 23.
