Businesses benefit from 2012 Olympics

WEST Sussex businesses are benefiting from the 2012 Olympic Games, after registering with CompeteFor - the chosen site of London 2012 for the publication of Games-related contract opportunities, set up by SEEDA, the South East England Development Agency.

More than 130 traceable contracts have so far been awarded to businesses across the whole South East region, 15 of which having been won by companies in East and West Sussex.

From CompeteFor's inception in April 2008 to date, eight contracts have been won at an estimated total value in excess of 2mn.

Across the South-East a further 78 companies have been shortlisted in their tender for contract process which, with 100 per cent success rate, would generate an estimated total of 6.5mn of business in the region.

The free business 'dating agency' website acts as a brokerage service between buyers and potential suppliers. More than 39,000 companies have registered nationally for supply chain contracts, with some 650 already having been matched up to provide an estimated 2bn worth of services for the Games.

Across the South East, a total of 6,955 businesses have recorded their details in CompeteFor's registration process. In East and West Sussex, 1,094 companies to date have registered, 452 of which are now ready to tender having completed their pre-qualification.

Sixty-three opportunities have been posted on CompeteFor in the past fortnight, and a further 238 are recorded as being 'in the pipeline.'

The Olympic Delivery Authority estimates that 75,000 contracts, worth approximately 6bn, are to be won in the lead up to and duration of the Games.

Companies seeking to maximise their chance of a slice of the action should register their business opportunity, as either buyer or supplier, via www.competefor.com, or type CompeteFor in the search engine.

Business Link champion for Sussex is Bobbie Scragg, who can be contacted for CompeteFor registration advice on 01444 259259.
