Bravery spurs on mum's Help For Heroes

A CHICHESTER woman is holding a raffle to raise money for servicemen and women who are injured in conflict.

Maureen Cross, whose son Ken is a dog handler based in Afghanistan, is holding the raffle for charity, Help For Heroes.

Help For Heroes is aiming to raise millions of pounds to upgrade facilities at a military hospital in Surrey.

Mrs Cross said: "This is not just for me, it is for everyone who has got someone in the armed forces, because they are all good people.

"I have been watching the conflict on television. When Ken came home he had a Help For Heroes band on, and I thought it is about time I did something as well."

All the prizes from the raffle have been donated by shops in Sadlers Walk, which is where Mrs Cross works in The Clean Machine.

All the prizes are in envelopes and winners will pick out a prize at random.

Prizes include a sponge cake, a canvas print, tiara and earrings, a two-course frozen dinner for two, a free breakfast and box of chocolates, a vacuum cleaner, an outside lamp and a selection of tools, a candle stick, a serving plate, a 50 voucher for a cake, a 10 laundry voucher, a picture frame, and a 25 Marks and Spencers voucher.

Tickets are 1, and can be bought from The Clean Machine in the northern end of Sadlers Walk as from today.

The draw will be made on September 13.
