A man’s body has been found on the Downs near Upper Beeding.

The discovery was made by a farmer at Truleigh Hill at 5.25pm yesterday evening.

A car thought to have belonged to the dead man was found nearby.

The body is still to be formally identified, but police believe it is that of a 28-year-old Hove man, reported missing on Monday.

Detective Inspector Jim McKnight said: “His family is aware of his death which we are treating as unexplained.

“We are investigating the circumstances and the coroner has been informed.”

A post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow and police hope to formally identify the body on Friday.
