Gatwick is to be included in the final choice of British airports which may be expanded to meet future needs.
An announcement came from the Airports Commission early today, naming Gatwick as one of three short-listed options.
The news has been welcomed by West Sussex County Council, which says expanding Gatwick would bring major economic benefits to the area.
It’s backing plans for a second runway, although a legal agreement means this can’t be built till 2019.
Pieter Montyn is Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport. Broadcast Media Relations Manager for the county council Chris Rider asked him for his reaction to the news.
