Antarctic trip for Tim
A BILLINGSHURST man hopes to finish an expedition one of his relatives started 99 years ago.
Tim Fright, 24, is part of a team of descendants and relations of an expedition led by Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, which aimed to be the first to reach the South Pole.
Now, precisely a century later, six people will re-trace their family members' steps in a landmark attempt to finish the job.
Mr Fright, of Forge Way, is the great-great-nephew of Frank Wild, the only explorer to accompany Shackleton on all his missions.
Only three of the group will tackle the full 900-mile trek of the Shackleton Centenary Expedition from the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf.
Mr Fright and two others will complete the final 97 miles from the furthest point in January 2009, which will take around two weeks.
