Animal rights march - road closures announced

POLICE may close Horsham's Parsonage Road for an hour during an animal rights march tomorrow (Saturday April 26).

Police have reminded the public that travel disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum but a Sussex Police spokesperson said it may be advisable to allow extra time for journies or find an alternative route.

It is anticipated Parsonage Road may close for approximately one hour, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, to maintain public safety.

Police have asked motorists to be patient when entering and leaving the Swan Walk; Forum and Piries Place car parks and the area of the bus station as slow moving or stationary traffic may be experienced as the event passes by.

Staggering journey times may be beneficial.

The route remains unchanged from that previously advertised.

The march will start in Horsham Park at about 12.30pm, once demonstrators have gathered.

Participants will walk an agreed route through the town centre to Parsonage Road, before returning to Horsham Park to disperse by around 4.30pm.

The return journey will not include the town centre.

Chief Inspector Steve Black, Horsham District Commander said: "Our key aim is to minimise disruption to the public and to maintain safety.

"On the day, officers will marshal the planned route.

"We have been meeting with organisers, to encourage a peaceful, lawful protest."
