LETTER: Action is about patient safety

I am deeply concerned about the doctors’ strike actions.

The Government position is indefensible. The ‘weekend death statistics’ have been shown to be spurious, and there is no plan or adequate funding for the large number of additional staff and training required for full seven-day working.

This strike is not, and never has been, about pay.

It is about patient safety.

It is also - the new contract - agreed to have a particularly negative impact on female staff.

If you sincerely care about our NHS and are not party to the clear intentions of the Health Secretary to move to an increasingly private insurance -based system then join me and the millions of others who care so passionately about our Health Service and those who work there.
