LETTER: Resist out of town development

THE COUNCIL is apparently planning for retail on the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre site and knows already that whatever is sold will take trade from existing shops in the town.

After the report by Mary Portas on halting the decline in town centres, the suggestion was to resist out of town development.

If the council has to provide new running tracks with changing facilities and club rooms, new bowling centre plus many other facilities plus running cost, maintenance etc, surely this makes its calculations of income complete nonsense.

If, according to Jonathan Chowen, negotiations have been ongoing for some time why was the bowling club allowed to put in expensive new lighting and new mats? We understand that the bowls club has a maintenance contract so how does this stand?
