Billingshurst Leisure Centre is running a week of activities from 27th January – 2nd February to raise money for Hounds for Heroes, the charity supported by Lance Corporal James Brynin who last year was killed whilst on tour in Afghanistan.

James, who used to work at the Leisure Centre, was a keen supporter of this charity that trains and provides assistance dogs for injured service men and women.

There are a wide variety of activities on offer throughout the week, the centre are not charging for them but are asking for donations to Hounds for Heroes.

You can try an exercise class for free on Monday, have a food diary analysis on Tuesday, get a health MOT with Horsham District Wellbeing on Thursday, take part in a number of gym or swim challenges or have a Personal Training Taster trial with one of our instructors for just £10 with all monies going to Hounds for Heroes. Up & Running sports shop from Horsham are supporting the event by providing free Gait Analysis on Monday 27th between 6 – 8pm, make sure you are wearing the right trainers for your activity.

Dale Whitford General Manager at Billingshurst Leisure Centre says of the event “We are pleased to be supporting this great charity in memory of James. His family still regularly use the centre and have already raised money for one assistance dog. We would like to help them raise the money for a second dog and are aiming to raise £1000 throughout the week. We ask all of our customers to get behind the good cause, take part in something new and give generously”.

It costs £20,000 to train an assistance dog and change the life of injured service men and women. The dogs are trained to open doors, pick things up, collect cash from ATMs and many other everyday tasks that disabled people can find challenging. They also provide essential companionship and independence for their disabled partner. You can meet one of the Hounds for Heroes dogs at the leisure centre on Monday 27th January from 5pm.

These are just some of the activities on offer throughout the week.
