A village in the Horsham district - once at the centre of a witch’s tale - has been ranked as one of the most beautiful places to live in the country.

In today’s County Times, Slinfold has been ranked as the second prettiest place in the country, councillors have hit back at comments labelling a proposed housing development ‘a safe haven for crime’, and internet buffs have created a search engine that raises money for charity with each use.

A teenager has been jailed after admitting causing death by dangerous driving, calls for safe driving at a problem level crossing have intensified after two more incidents in the last week, and employees of a business have been subjected to ‘intimidating behaviour’ from residents.

Meanwhile, a nursery will close after it was graded ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted, tributes have been paid to a much-loved salesman who owned a furniture shop, and a starlet who featured on last year’s X Factor will take his talents to the West End.

In the South Downs edition, an under-pressure doctors’ practice hopes to build a new medical centre, architects have published a plan for a major development at Shoreham Cement Works, and a prestigious property has gone on the market for more than £2m.
