A busy mother turned green crusader is hosting a Fun Day in Billingshurst to mark Recycling Week this week.

On Saturday Coneyhurst resident Carrie Cort is opening up her home in Coolham Road in an aim to build awareness of caring for the planet.

The mother of one has been running a ‘green network’ called Sussex Green Living since the end of April and devotes a huge amount of time to her passion for sustainable living, because she is determined to do something ‘worthwhile’.

“I set up Sussex Green Living because of my love for nature and my concern about the health of the planet,” she told the County Times.

“The ultimate aim is to inspire families in Sussex to lead a greener life, with the help of brilliant resources and the input from the Sussex community.”

Carrie says she used to work ‘more than full time’ as a marketing director at Take One productions (UK) Ltd - a corporate video production company she founded with her brother - but had to cut her working hours since becoming a mum.

“I used to have an exhausting day and in the evening I’d sit down with my husband and watch TV, but I found myself thinking ‘I don’t want to watch TV, why not do something that will benefit me and the environment’.

“Now I am my former self three days a week and a mum two days a week and I do family things at the weekend.

“It is challenging because I’m trying to fit five days into three so sometimes I end up feeling guilty - us mums always do.

“But people say if you want something done ask a busy person - maybe that’s true.”
