HORSHAM’S namesake in the USA has been hit by Hurricane Irene, with trees flattened and roadways flooded.
Although the town, in Pennsylvania, escaped the worst of the hurricane’s fierce winds and rain, 13 people had to be rescued from their homes and moved to shelter.
Around 150 residents were left without power as cables were brought down.
The storm hit its peak in Horsham between 10pm and 2am, Saturday into Sunday.
The Horsham Township Community Centre was opened to house evacuees.
Of those rescued, six were from vehicles.
