Horsham’s festive decorations will be turned on this week and will feature a Christmas tree following public pressure.
Thanks to nine town centre sponsors adding to the funding made available by the Denne, Forest and Trafalgar Councils’ special charge budget, Horsham’s town centre Christmas lights will be enhanced with a seven metre high green LED tree near to the Carfax Bandstand.
The tree will be officially switched on in the Carfax on Thursday November 13 at 4pm.
The lack of a Christmas tree in the town centre drew criticism from members of the public last year.
To celebrate the return of this seasonal focal point, Horsham District Council are inviting as many local carol singing groups as possible to book a slot with them to sing carols on the Bandstand from December 1 up to Christmas.
Any group wishing to sing should make contact via firstname.lastname@example.org indicating times and days that they would prefer. Horsham District Council’s events team will endeavour to accommodate as many groups as possible respecting residents, market and business activities nearby.
Helena Croft (Con, Roffey North), HDC’s deputy leader and cabinet member for the town centre, said: “Thanks to these businesses and the continued support of our neighbourhood councils we have been able to respond to a public desire for the return of a town Christmas tree.
“I hope that as many carol singing groups as possible take the opportunity to add to the towns festive feel by joining us at the bandstand in the town centre this year.”
Thanks on behalf of the local community go to tree sponsors, All Types of Mortgages - AToM, Buenos Aires Restaurant, Deep Blue Restaurants, Denne, Forest and Trafalgar Neighbourhood Councils, Harris Lord Recruitment, Horsham Matters, Sussex Lighting, Tomoli & Will, Designer Fashion, Visit Horsham, and Wakefields Jewellers.
