The Sparks in the Park event in Horsham Park today (Sunday July 15) has been cancelled.

Horshamn District Council, on its Facebook page, says: “It is with regret that the Council has decided that the Sparks in the Park event due to take place today will have to be cancelled due to unsafe conditions in Horsham Park caused by the additional heavy rainfall overnight.”

There was some earlier confusion as other media still broadcast the fact it was on, but the district council’s own website was updated with a cancelled message to reaffirm the situation.

Following on from last year’s successful event, Horsham’s Sparks In The Park was set to be even bigger and better this year with plenty of entertainment for all to participate in and enjoy.

The idea was to celebrate the arrival of Caribbean Olympic athletes using Horsham’s leisure facilities as a pre-Games training camp.

What will be particularly frustrating for Sparks in the Park organisers is that Horsham residents woke up to a delightful sunny morning today (Sunday).

Rain failed to disrupt The St Catherine’s Hospice Midnight walk setting off from the Park last night, but the ground was very muddy.
