Horsham goalkeeper Gareth Williams is out for the season after suffering knee ligament damage on Saturday.
Hornets boss Dominic Di Paola confirmed he suffered the serious injury amidst conceding the fourth goal in the disappointing top-of-the-table defeat to Eastbourne Town.
It complied the misery on the home side after the Premier Division title-race setback as last year’s supporters player of the season will now miss the run in.
Di Paola said: “Gareth is out for the season, he has done his ligaments. I really feel for him.
“Having spent the night in A&E after the game, if we feel down about it, how must be feeling?
“I really feel for him, he started the season so well in the early weeks when we were bedding in. He was the one that got us those clean sheets. Now the last thing for him this season will be that game.”
The Horsham boss, however, refused to criticise his keeper for his errors on Saturday and said: “It’s a team game football.
“People do not take chances or do the right things, you cannot put the blame on one person. If the first ball did not get through, Gareth does not have to clear. If we defend better it does not happen.
“If the ball was put out into the old Queen Street to start with it doesn’t happen
“The fourth goal was an error, but everyone makes them. With a goalkeeper it is glaringly obvious, but I can tell you the mistakes made for every goal scored in the game.
“You cannot blame one person, but it is disappointing to make such a glaring error in such a big game.”
