A Henfield mum ‘inundated with people wanting cakes’ is opening a new cupcake and local crafts shop in the village.
Kayleigh Peters, 25, owner of Kaylee’s Cakery, who currently bakes all her cakes at home, is hoping to open shop the Saturday after next (September 21).
She will sell various cakes including traditional fruit cakes for an older generation, speciality coffee from the Horsham Coffee Roaster, local crafts and plans to run cupcake workshops.
The mother of two said: “Henfield is a lovely village, we’ve got loads to offer in Henfield.
“There are lots of houses going up at the moment, a really busy high street and a lovely community so that’s firstly why we live here and secondly why I chose to set up the business here.”
Kayleigh spent five years being a stay-at-home mum before setting up her business last November.
The mother has already developed a clientèle for her home-baked cupcakes and received many positive comments on social media after announcing she is to open her own shop.
She commented: “It’s my creative side, I absolutely love anything to do with designs.
“I’ve just had someone who runs a home baking business for family and friends in the village say I’m very brave for opening and she thinks I’ll do fantastically.”
Kayleigh has two sons, aged three and four, who go to a Henfield nursery.
Her oldest was diagnosed with autism last year which had made her take a ‘step back’ in her business plans.
The family now receive support for him.
“I’ve my hands full. I’ve been a stay at home mum for five years and set the [business] up last year, it’s had a really massive impact on my life.”
She added: “I’m supported by my husband and the reason why the name’s what it is is because his name is Lee and my name’s Kayleigh.
“So it’s a bit of an ironic name but it’s very much a family business.”
The businesswoman plans to look at opening another shop front and commercial kitchen in the next three years.
Kaylee’s Cakery is to open on September 21, at 2 Norton Mews near Coopers Way, Henfield.
