Glowing report for medical centre rated '˜outstanding'

Staff are '˜delighted' at Pulborough Primary Care Centre after an inspection rated the centre '˜outstanding' this week.

Inspectors noted proactive partnerships with other organisations such as the Pulborough Patient Link Group and particular efforts to provide better mental health support.

The practice in Spiro Close, run by Pulborough Medical Group, was rated ‘outstanding’ for being responsive to people’s needs and well-led, and ‘good’ for being safe, effective and caring.

Manager Andy Bolt said: “We’re definitely in a celebratory mood and it’s a wonderful thing to share with our patients, so we’re delighted that we’ve been recognised in this way.

“Of course, we won’t rest on our laurels, we will continue to strive for excellence and great service for our patients and we’re very excited for all that the future holds.”

He said the team had expanded to support the increasing number of patients in the area catered for by the centre.

The centre also provides a wide range of consultant services not usually available in rural areas.

Of particular merit in the report was the standard of care for those with dementia and the mental health hub for psyciatry and various counselling services.

Professor Steve Field, chief inspector of General Practice, said: “I am delighted to highlight the exceptional service at Pulborough Primary Care Centre.

People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care.

“The GPs and staff at this practice have demonstrated a real commitment to their patients.

“All of this hard work and dedication pays off in making a real difference to their patients, which is why we have found the practice to be Outstanding.

“I hope other practices will see this service as a model for excellent care.”

Ruth Rankine, deputy chief inspector of General Practice in the South, said the centre was clearly ‘a real asset’.

She said: “The practice was actively involved in community care, undertaking innovative work to help the everyone within the area get better access to healthcare services.

“Staff demonstrated a comprehensive approach in managing the differing needs of their patients, proactively gathering feedback, and reflected these needs when planning and delivering services.”
