Set in a flower and balloon bedecked hall, 63 members and guests of the Steyning and District Flower Club celebrated its golden anniversary on Wednesday October 28.

Doreen Nuttall Chairman and Colette Archer President of Sussex Area of NAFAS congratulated the club on achieving 50 successful years.

Valerie Hodges, chairman said that this active club whilst moving forward with the times offered everyone with an interest in flowers the opportunity to enjoy demonstrations, attend workshops and socialise. It also supports flower festivals, local churches and outreach into the community.

In addition to a delicious buffet supper, the club welcomed Jill Parker who entertained the gathering with an amusing talk giving insights into her life as a ‘Bunny Girl’ in the 1970s and early 80s.

Steyning and District Flower Club meets at the Steyning Centre on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm (except for August and December). Visitors and new members are welcome, there is no need to have any expertise, just come, sit, watch and enjoy.
