Roffey captain Josh Fleming believes his side can retain the Sussex League Premier Division title after their two wins at the weekend lifted them to the top of the table.

The defending champions followed Saturday’s four-wicket victory against local rivals Horsham with a seven-wicket success against the Sussex Development XI.

They now need two more wins from their remaining two matches against Billingshurst and Middleton to be crowned league champions for the second successive year.

Fleming said: “We know if we can win our last two games well, we will win the league.

“But we are not taking things lightly as they are two good sides who are battling against relegation so the difficulty of doing so cannot be understated.

“We know it’s going to be tough. We are confident but are not going to get ahead of ourselves.

“Hopefully, Bexhill this week and Horsham next week can do us a favour and beat our only rivals East Grinstead.

“They are both good sides so it can easily happen. We would be very grateful if they did do that!”

On Sunday, Roffey’s Alex Collins took 4-21 as they dismissed the development XI for 135 after their opponents won the toss and elected to bat.

Usman Khan then hit 58 not out as Roffey made 139-3, reaching their target in 24.1 overs.

Fleming said: “Alex was outstanding in a good all-round bowling performance. It set us up nicely for our batsmen to get a reachable target.

“Usman was the star with the bat and we hit the runs comfortably.”
