FIREFIGHTERS from Sussex Fire and Rescue Service welcomed a new recruit during the ‘wheely good weekend’ at Fishers Adventure Farm Park.

Crowds gathered as Fireman Sam, the renowned ‘hero next door’ was spotted at the park in Newpound Lane, Wisborough Green, this bank holiday.

Children watched in delight, as their favourite TV character jumped aboard a real life fire engine.

Billingshurst Firefighters Dan Game, Mike Sussex, and Dave Spence, and crew commander, Kevin Marchant, showed children around their fire engine and they even let Fireman Sam practice using the hose.

All children had the chance to meet and greet the popular television character during regular sessions throughout the day.

Visitor Mandy Chatt said: “I thought it was excellent! We’ve been to all the theme days here - it’s a great idea. My son even got to try on the Fireman’s helmet!”

Also on display were a selection of local classic cars, motorbikes and a huge display of Massey Ferguson tractors, courtesy of the ‘Friends of Ferguson Heritage’ to add to the ‘farming fun’ of the day.
