Firefighters based across West Sussex battled to extinguish a fire at a home in Amberley on Sunday (November 9).

Crews from Storrington, Arundel, Worthing, Bognor, Crawley, Littlehampton, Horsham and Chichester were at the scene for almost three hours.

The blaze broke out in the thatched house in Church Road at around 12.40pm.

Fourteen breathing apparatus and four hose reels were used by firefighters.

Forty per cent of the first floor was damaged by fire, 60 per cent was damaged by heat and the entire floor suffered smoke damage.

The loft space was inspected to check for signs of fire using a thermal imaging camera, but none were found.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
