On Sunday 17th November 2013 Farlington School will host the 18th Horsham Open Junior Chess Tournament. This all-day event will be attended by over one hundred children between the ages of seven and eighteen from East and West Sussex.

On this occasion, the prizes will be presented by Amy Hoare (pictured), England’s top ranked Under 18s female player, who is in the Lower Sixth at Farlington. Amy was a member of the Junior England Squad who competed in the European Youth Chess Championships in Montenegro in September 2013.

This Open Junior Chess Tournament is round three of the Sussex Junior Grand Prix series of six Open Tournaments played throughout the year. A player’s best four results count towards a Grand Prix final placing at the end of the season. The event has been held at Farlington for the last eight years and the school always has at least six girls competing, all of whom belong to the Farlington Junior Chess Club.

Joy Baggs, Prep School Headmistress, said, “Farlington is always delighted to host this Open Junior Tournament; it is a great event and an excellent way for children to develop their chess skills and meet new friends with similar interests.”
