A Horsham caregiver has been able to see her grandmother in South Africa after she won £1,000 in a raffle run by her employer, Home Instead Senior Care.
Kathryn Steenkamp, who has been a caregiver with Home Instead for a year, had not seen her in over three years.
The company provides quality care for older people in the comfort of their own homes. Recently, the care company asked caregivers to participate in an independent ‘happiness’ survey to ensure they are getting it right.
The survey, completed anonymously, looked at various aspects of working for the company, which specialises in providing at-home care for the elderly, to ensure that caregivers feel valued and are happy in their work.
No stone was left unturned in this quest with staff asked about all aspects of their working lives including training, ongoing support, pride in working for the company and having the time to properly care for clients.
Some 4,100 staff across the country participated in the survey and were then entered into a raffle to win £1,000. Lucky for Kathryn, she won the grand prize and decided to use the money to fly to South Africa to visit her gran.
Pearl Blakemore, owner of Home Instead in Horsham said: “I am so happy for Kathryn. She was the lucky winner out of 4,100 entrants in the raffle, and she spent it on a fantastic trip to visit her grandmother in South Africa.”
