Chance for young teens to try driving

YOUNG teenagers can get hands-on experience of driving at this year’s Piazza Italia.

Stay Safe Driving School is running the Under 17s Driving Experience to give 14-16 year olds a chance to get behind the wheel with expert supervision.

Steve Lintott, founder of the driving school, said: “The Under 17s driving experience will be a unique opportunity for young people to find out what it’s like behind the wheel of a real car.

“They will be able to try their hand at precision manoeuvres in a safe and controlled environment while discovering just how important it is to think and react quickly and sensibly while they’re in the driving seat.”

The driving will take place in Swan Yard, behind the COOK shop in the Carfax.

Sessions can be booked at the Stay Safe stand, which will be near the Carfax bandstand during Piazza Italia.

Steve recommends booking early in the day, as he expects the event to be very popular with young visitors.

The instructors are providing their services free, subject to a minimum donation to the event’s chosen charities - Chestnut Tree House and Sussex Air Ambulance.

The best overall young driver will win a passenger drive in a Ferrari, courtesy of the Ferrari Club, being driven around either Goodwood or Brands Hatch.

The Under 17s driving experience will run from 11am to 4pm on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.
